At the end of WW2 Pye Ltd was in possession of a rich platform of technology and knowledge from work on the development and production of military radar, military wireless and specialist military test equipment, together with links to universities and government research departments and a total workforce of 14,000 experienced people spread across towns and villages in East Anglia.
In recognition of the contribution made by Pye Ltd to the technological war effort the British Government made an ex-gratia payment to the company of £200,000 together with an additional sum of £25,000 to be distributed among the staff of the research and development laboratories.
